Queen’s Park is looking to pass major changes to the Ontario Municipal Board and have them in place by 2018. The Ontario government says these changes will be “giving communities a stronger voice and ensuring people have access to faster, fairer and more affordable hearings”. Hearings would be conducted by a new Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT).

After suggestions from many citizens who are not on FaceBook, we have decided to launch this site as another vehicle to facilitate and foster positive discussion on responsible growth here in Grimsby.

Public Works Minutes Discussion
Mr. LeRoux presented a few details of the $8M ($5M with “other projects”) Winston Road reconstruction. Costs will be covered through Development Charges (92%), outside contributions ($1.3M) and $600K from the Town. Since DC’s won’t all be received at the time construction starts this June, short term borrowing will need to be put in place with interest payments charged back to DC’s. Potential of 5-8 years to recoup the costs in a “hot” market, and up to 20 years if things slow down (highly probable). Apparently Public Works does not expect too many “extras” and has set aside a small contingency ($100K) for possible overruns.

But in all seriousness, why would By-Law be entitled to enforce most of which is in the Canadian Criminal Code and the exclusive domain of Niagara Regional Police? Cash grab?

Looping the interior dead-ends
This came up at the Open House as well and Phelps was not receptive to changing the site plan to remove 6-8 units to loop the inside roadways to accommodate fire and regional waste access. Dead-ends meet the minimum required by the Fire Department but only if each residential unit is installed with a sprinkler system. Phelps planner was taken off guard by this condition and thought everything had been addressed.
